Household Trash

Household trash is collected from each residence on Wednesday by the Town’s contract trash removal company. Refuse must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. at a location that is readily accessible to the collectors. If you are disabled and need a waiver to this rule, please contact the Town Hall at 301-927-3344. Each household should have at least one water-tight container with cover, where all solid garbage and organic refuse is placed.

Bulk Trash

Town will pick up bulk trash and white goods.  There is a charge per item for large furniture items (sofa, larger chairs, tables, mattress, box springs, etc.)  There is a slightly higher charge for refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers, dish washers, etc.

No construction material of any type, no tires, household hazardous waste (paint, herbicides, insecticides, solvents, chemicals, propane tanks, oil tanks, furnaces, concrete, sinks, liquids, batteries, large rugs, auto parts, tree stumps, tree limbs, tree logs or loose piles.

Wire or old fencing must be rolled and tied in small tight bundles to be picked up.  Doors must be removed from freezers and refrigerators before placing to the curb or will not be picked up.

Before you place a bulk item out at the curb for pick up on every other Tuesday, you must obtain a sticker from the Town Hall.

Any large bulk trash item or white goods placed out for pick up without having a sticker on the item will not be collected.

Arrangements must be made through the Town office by calling (301) 927-3344.

Yard Waste

Yard Waste is picked up on Tuesdays. Small tree limbs/shrubbery clippings must be cut in short (12”) lengths and placed in trash bags for pickup. Tree trunks will not be collected.

Recycling

Recycling of glass jars and bottles, metal cans, plastic bottles and newspapers takes place on Friday of each week. Newspapers are to be separated from the bottles and cans.  Each property owner is provided with one complimentary recycling container.  Additional containers are available for an extra fee.

Maintenance

The Maintenance Department maintains the physical facilities of the Town and provides: maintenance and repair of the streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters; maintenance of town buildings and parks; care of trees between sidewalks and curbs; snow and ice removal; and mixed paper/cardboard recycling.
